Newtown was the former junction station of the cross country line to Colac, with the junction located at the DOWN end of the station. The only remains left at the station site today are platform mounds. A large trestle bridge exists a short distance along the Skipton Branch at the DOWN end of the station. The bridge has been restored for pedestrian use.
