Mansfield Line
The Mansfield Line was a branch line which served a number of small towns nearby the Goulbern River and Eildon Reservoir. The line was quite scenic and included a tunnel near cheviot and a viaduct over an arm of the Eildon Reservoir near Bonnie Doon.
The line survived until the late 1970s serving goods traffic including transport of livestock. Although there was potential for this line to serve passenger traffic to Mount Buller this never eventuated to a great extent. The line was quickly dismantled following closure, preventing any chance of tourist services from operating along the line dispite some interest being shown.
Many bridges along the line have since been removed with only the uprights remaining. There have been recent moves to convert this line to a rail trail although to date there has been little work undertaken other than a short section near Mansfield.
